Natural Emergencies

What do you do to prepare for natural disasters such as tornados, earthquakes or wildfires? Is there anything you can do?

First off, let me tell you how great of a website Ready.gov is! https://www.ready.gov/prepare-for-emergencies They cover every possible scenario from tornado to biological threats, really! If you have never been to their site, I suggest you take a peek ASAP!

Secondly, if you live in a state that is known for, say, tornados. Please educate yourself and your family. Make an emergency kit and disaster escape plan. Have the proper insurance that you need for your home, health and property.

Let's talk about the wildfire in Gatlinburg. Did you know that fires are healthy for the environment? Crazy huh? But when these fires are started by arson, they can move so fast a warning isn't even issued. Have you seen on the news people of Tennessee are saying they didn't even know they needed to evacuate until they looked outside and saw the flames engulfing their property? It's a very sad situation. Gatlinburg was loved by many and a very popular tourist attraction. California also got hit with a very large wildfire this year too.

So what can people do to protect themselves? Make a clear plan and go over it with your family over and over until they know it. Find alternative escape routes in your area as well as shelters that will take people in in case of emergencies. Watch the news when there is weather or a disaster coming your way. Facebook is great for people to keep an eye on as well.

How can you help people of a natural disaster? Donate. Volunteer. Ask what you can do.

What inspired me to write this blog? The recent Gatlinburg fire hit home. It wasn't our home, but it was home to one of the biggest tourist attractions that our families loved. We are taking some trailers almost 600 miles to them full of donations. You can help.
